Plumfield Moms
We are sisters in Christ who became friends over a shared love of Truth, Goodness, and Beauty, found especially in good and great books. Our primary vocation is that of marriage and motherhood, but we feel a secondary call, as educators and homeschool moms, to walk with families who are seeking to help form souls who are capable of responding to the vocation God has called them to. Our objective is to form our children and grandchildren to the best of our ability, and in so doing share what has been meaningful to us with others that it may encourage them and lighten their burden. As homeschoolers, classical educators and Christians, we have a passion for the ancient Greek paideia and the loving education of Louisa May Alcott‘s Plumfield (from her novel Little Men).

"Schmidt (or Carter Jones, the narrator) had me laughing within the first couple of pages. At 7:15 a.m. on the first day of Carter’s sixth grade year, nothing is going right in the Jones household. The doorbell rings. It is raining “like an Australian tropical thunderstorm,” but the man on the doorstep is completely dry because he’s standing “underneath an umbrella as big as a satellite disk.” When Carter finally lets the man in the house, the man tells Carter’s mother that her father-in-law, whom she never met, has died and left an endowment to enable his butler to continue in the service of the family."

Fans of Ben-Hur, The Robe, the movie Risen, the TV series A. D.and The Chosen may wonder how they have missed this exciting and beautiful conversion story that was originally published in 1955. I discovered English author Margaret McAllister through her Mistmantle Chronicles books. Those beautiful books have become a favorite series in my home and my lending library. In fact, I love them so much that I named my dog Cedar in honor of one of the characters we meet in book two. I have since read as many of her other books as I can get my hands on here in the United States. While interviewing McAllister last fall, she told me that she thought I would really enjoy and appreciate one of her first novels, Hold My Hand and Run. And . . . she was right. You can find our full review here: https://plumfieldandpaideia.com/hold-my-hand-and-run/
